Sync with Mobile
Pair this computer with the Kognar app on your phone so your conversations follow you between devices. What you write on one device shows up on the other — without re-sending the whole history every time.
Open Settings (Ctrl/Cmd+U) → Sync with mobile.
Pair with your phone
The top of the section shows a QR code. Open Kognar on your phone, sign in with the same account, and scan it.
- The line above the code names the account the backup belongs to (
This backup belongs to [email protected]) — use the same email on the phone, otherwise the phone will warn you that the backup belongs to a different session. - Copy key — copies the pairing payload to the clipboard if you would rather paste it than scan.
- Generate a new key — creates a fresh pairing key. Your phone has to scan the new code, and cloud sync restarts from a full backup. You are asked to confirm first.
The encryption key stays on this device. Your conversations are encrypted before they are uploaded, so the cloud copy is never readable in the clear.

Sync is incremental: only what changed since the last run is uploaded or downloaded.
Sync status
The second block reports the current state:

Actions
- Sync now — runs a cycle immediately instead of waiting for the next scheduled one.
- Delete cloud backup — removes the encrypted copy from the cloud. This computer and your phone have to pair again to resume syncing. You are asked to confirm first.
Success and failure messages appear right below these buttons.
When sync runs automatically
With the app open, Kognar checks for changes:
- At startup
- Every 5 minutes
- When the window regains focus
- Right after you make a local change
The conversation list in the sidebar refreshes as soon as new content arrives from the other device.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to try |

| The phone says the backup belongs to another account | Sign in on both devices with the same email, then scan the code again |
| Sync reports an error | Check your connection and press Sync now; the section shows the error message |
| The phone cannot restore the history after signing out and back in | Generate a new key on this computer and pair again — the backup is rebuilt from scratch |
| Status never advances | Use Sync now; if it still fails, delete the cloud backup and pair again |
