Sign In & Account Setup

Kognar Chat requires an account to save your conversation history, settings, projects, and personalized memory. Your account keeps everything in sync and protected.

Creating an account​

If you don't have an account yet, click Create account on the login screen. This opens the Kognar registration page in your browser, where you can sign up with an email address.

Signing in​

Email and Password​

  1. Open Kognar Chat.
  2. Enter your email address and password.
  3. Click Sign In.

If you forgot your password, type your email and click Forgot password. If there is an account for that email, you'll get a link to create a new password (valid for 30 minutes); it opens the Kognar account page in your browser. Accounts that sign in with Google, Microsoft or SSO get a reminder of how to sign in instead.

Google​

  1. On the login screen, click Google.
  2. Your system browser will open with a Google sign-in page.
  3. Complete the authentication in the browser.
  4. Kognar Chat will automatically sign you in once complete.

Microsoft​

  1. On the login screen, click Microsoft.
  2. Your system browser will open a page with Sign in with Microsoft. Click it and choose your personal or work/school Microsoft account.
  3. Kognar Chat will automatically sign you in once complete.

SSO (company login)​

If your company uses single sign-on with Kognar (Enterprise plan):

  1. On the login screen, click SSO.
  2. Enter your work email and click Continue. Kognar finds your company's login by the email domain.
  3. Your system browser will open a page with Sign in with SSO. Click it and sign in with your company account.
  4. Kognar Chat will automatically sign you in once complete.

If the browser tab was closed before you finished, click Open company login to try again. If no SSO is found for your email's domain, sign in another way or ask your company's admin.

Apple​

  1. On the login screen, click Apple.
  2. Complete Apple Sign-In in your system browser.
  3. Return to the app — you'll be signed in automatically.

Two-step verification​

If your account requires an extra confirmation, a verification code step appears right after you sign in. The first code is sent automatically as soon as the step opens — you don't have to ask for it.

  1. Check your email for the six-digit code
  2. Type it into the Verification code field
  3. Click Validate code

Resend code requests a new one. There is a short cool-down between sends, shown as a countdown on the button.

Staying signed in​

Your session persists between app restarts. Authentication tokens are refreshed automatically in the background so you won't be unexpectedly signed out during use.

Signing out​

To sign out:

  1. Click the Settings icon (bottom of the sidebar) or press Ctrl/Cmd+U.
  2. Click Logout at the bottom of the Settings navigation column.
  3. Confirm.

You'll be returned to the login screen. All locally stored session data is cleared.

Anonymous (Incognito) mode​

If you want to use Kognar Chat without saving anything, use Anonymous mode:

  • Click the floating private window button in the top-right of the main area
  • On macOS: press Shift+Cmd+I, or go to File > Use Incognito
  • On Windows/Linux: go to File > Use Incognito

In anonymous mode:

  • No conversation history is saved
  • No files or attachments are stored
  • All data is discarded when the window is closed
  • You can still use models, Web Search, and file attachments

Anonymous mode is great for sensitive or exploratory conversations you don't want to keep.

Account-specific data​

All of the following are tied to your account and are not shared between users:

  • Conversation history
  • Projects and their settings
  • Global memory
  • Custom agents, rules, MCP servers and their agent links
  • App settings and preferences
  • The encrypted cloud backup used by mobile sync
