Global Memory
Global Memory is a feature that automatically learns from your conversations over time. It extracts key information about your work, goals, and context — and uses that knowledge to give you more relevant, personalized responses.
How it works
Once enabled, Kognar runs a background analysis of your recent conversations once per day. It looks for:
- What you're currently working on
- Your priorities and goals
- Background context about your role or projects
- Patterns in how you prefer to work
This information is stored as a personal memory profile and automatically included in conversations in the All folder.
Enabling Global Memory
- Open Settings (
Ctrl/Cmd+U) - Go to Personalization
- Toggle Global Memory on
Once enabled, the first analysis runs in the background within the same day.
What changes when memory is active
When you start a conversation in the All folder, Kognar silently includes your memory profile as background context. This means:
- The AI already knows your role, ongoing projects, and preferences
- You don't have to re-explain yourself in every new conversation
- Answers are more targeted to your specific situation
Memory applies only to the All folder. Conversations in specific folders use that folder's own instructions instead.
Viewing the last memory analysis
In Settings > Personalization, you'll see a link to View last analysis. This shows the extracted memory from the most recent background run, so you can review what Kognar has learned.
Privacy
- Memory is stored locally on your device, tied to your account
- The analysis runs using your account's AI model access
- No memory content is shared with other users
- Disabling the feature stops future extractions; existing memory is not used
Refreshing memory manually
In Settings > Personalization, click the Refresh button to trigger a new extraction immediately rather than waiting for the next daily run.
Disabling Global Memory
- Open Settings > Personalization
- Toggle Global Memory off
When disabled, no new extractions occur and existing memory is not injected into conversations.
